Small rise in burglaries
Police in Bexley are informing the public that there has been a small rise in burglaries. Historically, in the winter months when homes are in darkness for more hours, there is a rise in burglaries as burglars use the cover of darkness.
We are reminding all residents and businesses across the borough to always check that doors are locked and that a key was used to secure the locking mechanism.
Never leave keys or valuables out where they can be seen through a window or door and tempt a thief. Leave nothing on display when you are away from your vehicle.
Make sure that side and back gates, communal alleygates, sheds and garages are securely locked at all times.
This crime prevention advice also applies to daylight hours.
Be a good neighbour by occasionally looking out of the front and back windows to see if anyone is hanging around or acting suspiciously. Make a note of what they look like, how they are dressed and in what direction they may be walking. If you have doubts call 101 and tell police. If it is an emergency always call 999.
Currently Bexley is the safest borough in London.
